Barcroft #4

Hello Gents, I have a question about a marking on the #4 Barcroft. I'm asking this question for a kind Ebay fellow.

He is asking what the number "3" stands for that is embosed on the inside lid.

And i would like to know too....
Is is a mold number?
A redesign number, (ie) they did three prototypes, and this model they ran with?
Or did they put it there so in 25 years i would be asking this question.

Also are there any websites that would list the differences between the four models. (i know there is, and i know the differences, it would be easyer to pass on a link.)

Any help would help.

The number 3 is stamped on all the lids of type 4's and also the letters A,P or C. I don't know if you recall but this was debated in the Click forums a year or so back and the question also put out to the Zippo historian and staff...nothing, nadda, zip.

My guess is that it may be a casting reference mark of some sort.

Is this ebayer 1942viejo listing this lighter? I sent him/her a note correcting the listing as they say it's a type 3, perhaps they want confirmation.

Hee hee, Yeah, same user. LOL, The question is for him but also for me. I just got my first Barcroft a few weeks ago. And would like to post the info on my site as well.

I know the basics between the four models, with the size of the inserts and such. Just wondering if there is anything else to look for, ie markings and what they mean.

does any one know if zippo will replace a zippo barcroft lid, if the lid is lost??

I know that they'll replace a broken hinge but have a feeling that the missing lid is a no-go unless they have some sitting in stock (highly unlikely, that)

bidding on a barcroft on ebay,its only $10 wondered if i might be able to push it through and get a new lid.might phone zippo uk tomorrow,see what the crack is.

I found that the newer the lighter the larger the hinge! any one else notice that? I got like 8 of them!
