I would love to be able to label myself a collector.. sadly I am far FAR from the your guys' stature.. I've collected shot glasses since I was 12.. odd story how that started actually.. but I'm glad none of you have said you collect for the value's sake of it. I mean to take something and make it profitable is fine.. but if you truly are passionate about something your not searching Ebay saying "Sh!t, I could get 3 times that." Do you guys have any Zippos that have never..not even ONCE been struck.. still having the orange sticker on the back.. *BTW how long has that sticker been employed??*

I have a bunch unstruck going back as far as a black crackle from WWII.Lot's of people get them and put them away either because they have one they already use or just because it was a gift and they don't use lighter's.Back then lot's of people would still rather use matches instead of dealing with filling a lighter. If I remember correct the stickers started back in the 90's.I remember getting one back then with a sticker and wondering what the heck was going one.Never seen them before that.Jeff aka bigbaddad

also back in the day zippos were not that cheep (still not today), and like you say alot of people dont want to deal with the "personality" of a zippo. its sort of living, it consumes fuel even during non use. they would rather use something more relible like a bic. its hard to get someone to switch to zippo, even if you explane that in the long run its cheeper to maintain a zippo with flints and fluid than buying a disposable.
i bought one recently a 05 dream catcher emblem that i havent taken the sticker off yet. itll eventually get dinged up because its in one of them new plastic boxes and it falls over alot.

Let's see, i started to collect Zippo's July 2005, not even a year ago. I have had a fascination with flame since i was a kid, i once lit part of my living room carpet on fire when i was 8 because i lit a napkin on fire and it burned so quickly that i had no time to put it out with water and dropped it. So i finally bought my Zippo in July 05 and knew that Zippo's would be something i would like for a very long time. I now have 23 Zippo's and have all been bought within 6 months. I don't really have any vintage ones, oldest one i have is the 93 collectible of the year which is the varga girl, my dad has had this since 93 and once i started to collect he told me i could have it. I keep buying brand new lighters cause i like a lot of the designs on them but soon i will start getting some used, old ones into my collection.

I'd decided on getting a Zippo, but I liked so many of the designs that I couldn't decide which one... so I set about getting them all

I cant remember why I started collecting. I assume that I still am since I keep buying the things! I think I have basically lost any concept of why I collect anymore...just keep doing it,lol.
