Why do you do it?
I don't have the income to increase my collection (if you could call it that) at the moment, but what I love about zippo's is their many textures. I guess it's the tricker in me...
When I buy a zippo I go for a new texture to try out. Sometimes the same and just a different colour, but usually to text how they work with tricks.

I myself have stopped collecting, for the same reason. My income isn't only going towards hobbies anymore. The reason I like collecting is because the Zippo lighter is elegant, sleek and simple. Makes for a very cool collector item when you can reminisce on how you got that particular lighter, or where you got it. It just has a very nostalgic feel to it.

I like the shape and artwork, every piece is nice and in my case they all got a story behind.

I started collecting basically for the same reason as CF. I liked the different textures, and then I liked the different designs that I saw out there, then I found out the history and legacy of the company, and that just fueled my interest. I've slowed down a bunch lately because of the reason given above, but I still just cannot resist when I see something I like.

CF, it's funny, I have approx. 150, you don't even realize the numbers you start amounting to. When the bug gets ya, and ya just start picking them up here and there, you amaze yourself!

I guess you meant does he "use" them all? lol I doubt that, I'm sure he has a lot in display cases. If I owned so many Zippos I'd maybe only use at the max 10 of them.

I would have to say i have reached 200. unofical count.
I wouldn't say that i collect for value, but to collect the story behind the zippo. Of these 200 zippos i would say about 25% of them are "collectable" zippos, ie, the D-day stuff, vargas, etc. These dont' get used.
The rest are used zippos. those are what i like to collect, each one has a story to tell about the person who used it. Plus i can use them if i want.

Flea, you should post some of those pictures you have of all your beat up lighters. Show everyone your work bench etc.

Reason for me is pretty simple.I really dig the history of them.A vintage Zippo tells a story that other collectables just could not tell.Lets not forget the smell also.man who does not remember sitting on grandpas lap and getting a wiff of the fluid from his old Zippo.man it brings back old days when things were good and a whole life was still ahead.Jeff aka bigbaddad
