wow I just heard yesterday the the employee contract was up at zippo and zippo said you must take a 35% pay cut or we are closing our doors! does anyone have any info about this? it sounds kinda sad for those people have no where else to go so-what choice did the have.

I heard some rumors a few months back that they were in debt and were a bad loan risk.Most told me I was crazy for saying that but,The guy I heard it from had some pretty solid info.I guess we will just have to wait and see.bbd

the info I got was from some one that lives down near or in bradford! after the layoffs last year it don't suprize me at all!

Prices are bad enough on eBay lately, can you just imagine what would happen if they did close the doors? ouch!

i cant see how zippo can go bust,they charge a fortune for their lighters,plus they give the impression of been very tight with their money

lmao good point but as I said before they should have stood up for smokers rights! with all the smoking bans out there all they have left are the collectors to buy there products and they gave us click ! Errr UMMmm let me rephrase that they let us buy a member ship to click pretty hefty price as far as I am concern . after the BIG lay off last fall it wouldn't surprise me in the least besides who can afford all them mass produced lighters any how? zippo screwed up years ago when the fired Mike schuler the man who started the swapmeets and got zippo on there feet! after a week they found out what a big mistake they made and call him up and begged him to take his job back! he said NO shove it. my father knows him and he is the one who told my father . funny he was in charge when the mystery of the forest came out funny now they want to copy a old lighter??? hmmm not the first time....lol don't get me wrong I collect zi$$o's I like some of the employees I just don't go for there politics "screw the club members! we already have them cater to the non members!" and jack the price up as high as you think they will pay!

The politics is getting pretty deep! It seems like if they would spend less money on these "projects" that would help. They keep offering these "failed" prototypes.
Why spend 6 months or more on a camo print or Iris whatever. The lastest club lighter is on this rubr red or whatever. I have not heard anything positive about it yet. Not only that but not everyone likes red! The last everyday lighter was also red,enough already. The swap meet lighter was on theat gold dust or whatever finish. That was suppose to be a feature of it but Marlboro was practically giving away the same lighter that year. Zippo can be a great company and has lots of potential but there marketing is somewhere in left field. There bring out all these funky designs and I have no idea who they are thinking we pay high end lighter prices for those designs. I will probably get a lot of flack for this post.

Mike, no flack whatsoever from me. You forget, this isn't the ZC. We can say what we want. I think most would agree with you. If they spent less money on these crazy designs, they could charge less. But then again, if this original post was correct and they are going on hard times over there at Zippo, then I guess the cost won't be going down anytime soon.

come on now think about it!!!!!! if your lighter is the best selling!!!!!!!you did there work for them and made them a ton of money even if yours isnt the best selling you still made them a ton of money!!!!!!and they loose 45 bucks for giving away a lighter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hmmmm who made out here? your design your art work lets ask this ? would you write a book and let the publisher make the money? would you reinvent the wheel and let good year make the money?
