Partly the photo and part dirt in the engraving. No black filling either side. Both Jeff and Paul saw this and agree that it looks to be the real deal.

we'll meet again at the mall and you can teach my Obi-Wan BBD! Cooper, I also found a site with info about a sergeant major that was same company in the same location during that period. Further, Paul, aka freespirit confirmed it as being chisel engraved (ie by hand without machine) which is clear especially with a loupe. I'd be surprised to see any counterfeits hand engraved considering the level of skill and time required.

Oh Bob,I forgot to tell you I am pretty sure that 1 is for the big red 1.It is an army unit that was formed way back and saw tons of combat during WWII Korea and Vietnam.I am almost positive it is not the Marine first division.Jeff aka bigbaddad

Thanks Jeff, I knew that already though...never even occured to me about the 1st Marines as I'm familiar with the 1st Inf Div crest and their nickname, The Big Red One. Found this on a Sergeant Major that was in the same coy during that period in Viet Nam that confirms the date and coy on my lighter. governor.mt.gov/heroes/hero.asp?id=137Wonder if he knew Earl and what became of him....

[i mg][/im g]Zippo Lighter issued too personnel serving in the Falklands War aboard the S.S Uganda. On the front of the lighter is the writing P & O passenger divn. S.S Uganda with a picture of the liner. On the reverse of the lighter is the writing Falkland Islands and a outline map of the Falkland Islands. Lighter is in very good condition with no marks to the case
