ZIPPO 1979 REGULAR BRUSHED CHROME USED. BASE ( / ZIPPO // ) VERY LOW USED AND VERY GOOD CONDITION ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................... HMS Norfolk From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Six ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Norfolk, from an 80-gun third-rate to today's powerful and sleek Type 23 frigate. The Norfolk motto is Serviens servo ("serving, I preserve"). The ships are named after the Duke of Norfolk or the county of Norfolk. • The first Norfolk was an 80-gun third-rate, named after Henry Howard, 7th Duke of Norfolk. She was built at Southampton and launched in 1693. • The second Norfolk was a slightly larger 74-gun third-rate, displacing 1,556 tons. She was launched on 8 December 1757 at Deptford. • Little details are known of the third Norfolk. There are a small number of ships logs which state that she was a cutter that was hired by the Royal Navy. • The fourth Norfolk (78) was a County-class heavy cruiser. She was commissioned on 30th April 1930. Norfolk was involved in many famous encounters during WWII, and was scrapped in 1950. • The fifth Norfolk (D21) was commissioned in March 1970. She was a County-class destroyer. She was sold to Chile in 1982 and remains in service with the Chilean Navy as of 2004. • The sixth and current HMS Norfolk (F230) was commissioned in November 1989, and was the first of the Type 23 or 'Duke' Class frigates. The vessel is to be decommissioned in March 2005. [im g]The Brown Water Navy was the part of the US Military that patrolled inland waterways and close coastal waters during the Vietnam War. It comprised PBR (Patrol Boat Riverine) units, PACV's (Patrol Air Cushion Vehicles) the Mobile Riverine Force, the YRBMs, advance bases, helicopter and seawolf units, and Naval Support Activity. The "Brown Water Navy" specifically refers to those naval forces operating in country, and did not include naval units in the Vietnam theatre far off the coast at sea, or large naval ships such as aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, cruisers, or battleships as these were considered part of the general "Blue Water Navy". The Brown Water Navy was a joint Army/Navy venture modeled after the earlier French Riverine, and coastal patrols in the First Indochina War. In Vietnam, control of the waterways was essential to controlling the country. Vietnam is criss-crossed with rivers, and has a very large coastline. In Vietnam, sampans and boats are similar to cars and trucks in terms of transportation for western countries. The largest of these waterways is the Mekong Delta. The Brown Water Navy was largely successful in its tactics to combat communist infiltration and weapons smuggling during its existence between 1966, and 1970. In 1970, the last of the Brown Water Navy units were turned over to the South Vietnamese as part of the overall Vietnamization process

[im g][/im g]COASTAL DIVISION ELEVEN The first "Swift" boats arrived at An Thoi, republic of Vietnam on 30 October 1965 and commenced patrolling the Gulf of Thailand coastline only four hours after arrival. The mission of the division is to prevent enemy infiltration of men and war materials into South Vietnam by sea. From this mission, and being the first such Swift division established, the motto "NUMBAH ONE WATCHDOG" was derived. An original drawing of the cartoon character "Snoopy" created by Charles Schultz in the "Peanuts" comic strip is included on the division insignia. Maintaining a continuous patrol of the Gulf of Thailand coastline as part of Operation Market Time (a joint U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard effort in Vietnam), Coastal Division ELEVEN personnel have searched literally thousands of watercraft ranging from small sampans to very large junks. This constant surveillance has all but strangled enemy infiltration by sea. Performing the secondary mission of naval gunfire support for friendly troops ashore, the Swift boat crews have prevented many small outposts and villages from being overrun by the enemy.
