I also did this thread on another well know site and it went no where so maybe this is the happening place! I have from time to time worked on dents. The corner ones are among the mosy common but usually they can be reduced with a lot of nervous sweat and various tools. The front and back sides are a different story of course this often involves the lid and or the base. If the dent is over top of the loop for the cam stop I think one is generaly scrd. Otherwise with more nervous sweat they are managable. Now the ones that are in the center region are like a hit or miss scenario. I don't think I have ever totally removed a dent and usually have to go away feeling good about reducing the worse ones. Anyone ever put yourself through this torment?

Ive certainly thought about it and wouldn't mind a go.only trouble is the dented zippos i have are the oldest ones which i wouldn't want to damage even more,so basically I'm too scared to have a go.

Arthur's been working on them too! - He had a go & wound up with a son. Be careful what you wish for Mike ;-)

hahaha...good one Paul! you silly git! Mike, have you thought to making a steel buck to insert into the case for some gentle hammering? Personally, I leave the dents alone as they are part of the history of the lighter.

A steel buck? I would like to get my hands on a piece of lead or maybe steel that I could slide in and hammer that way. If you are familiar with a circuliar saw wrench I tried that approach but only minimal success. I know what folks mean by leaving the dents as is but if you can significantly increase the apperance and or value of it by at least reducing dents I see personally have no conflict there. Of course there are zippos that I have that I will not bother with like a little corner dent which usually are too hard to pound out nicely due to the graeter thickness.

Ah, removing dents. I'm with most. I leave 'em. As it is a part of that zippos history.
But I must add that you should be carefull in doing this, for hammering on the metal will strech it and could cause a bigger problem. But removing corner dent's shouldn't cause much of a muck. Just be carefull in the bigger flat panels.
