USB Zippo -Based on Spanish Flea's original design

Ever since I saw that USB Zippo, I just had to do it! So finally got a decent deal on a SanDisk 1 GB Cruzer Micro.

So first I picked a Zippo that I got as a Christmas gift, wasn't too excited about, but figured it would work great as a stylish USB case (a Mood Indigo 4 Aces). I started out trying to work with the Zippo insert. However, I don't have the right tools, and ended up basically ripping it to shreds (the top of the insert popped out!). Damn I thought, what do i do, ruin another insert, buy better tools? Wait, no, I have a bunch of Ziplight inserts that the batteries are dead on, and they're plastic! Very easy to work with!

Then I hollowed out the Ziplight insert, and popped the USB drive in, cut out the bottom of the insert as well, Then I drilled a hole in the O in Zippo for the LED light to shine through and here's the result. I didn't permanently enclose the USB drive (not sure how a Zippo will pass in future office use, but the Zippo drive will be great for my personal use)

Wow you actually made one. Always thought it was possible, just never seen one made with a real Zippo. I think I've seen a company or two make them with Rippos. Don't like the "o" very much, I think I could live without the light. Very nicely done though.

LOL, wow, i first looked at the picture and said, wow, where can i buy that! I thouglht it was something you bought. Good Job!!!!! I like the light too. But i would have changed it to purple or blue to match the case.

Yeah it does look rather professional. Hmm, maybe if it was blue or purple I could live with it, that seems to make sense. Maybe you can start selling them, considering you have a few dead Ziplights laying around.

Blue,thats pretty damn cool.I just ordered one of those usb things from camel the other day and had no idea what I was going to use it for.Hope you don't mind if I make on also.Figure I still have a bunch of old lights might as well use them.By the way camel has the 1 gig in their new catalog for 600 camel cash notes.I also ordered their Zippo with the zipper on black ice 300 camel cash.Should make a nice set.Jeff
