On the topic of making your own zippo parts....... A few months back I was requested to turn a non looped zippo into a looped zippo.....for a early '50's, 3 barrel zippo.

It came out really good, but i made it a bit to long. It was my first attempt. Enjoy the pix. If this was chromed it look look like an orignal. (aside from the size)

Must admit that is a sweet repair.I have fixed regular loss proofs but never tried a 3 barrel.Like you said to bad you could not get the loop chromed.Even if the size is a bit off I have seen others where the loops were a bit different from one to another.I think setting up the die to make them allowed for a little difference depending on who did the set up.Nice job!!bbd

I was truly impressed at how it came out. I was commissioned to do this. I spent a little over 2 hours with my micromiter measuring every aspect of the original hinge. I must have gotten a number mixed up when it came to the length of the thing. I even had to repair the hinge on that zippo. it was a bit loose. Tightened it up, added a new hinge pin, filled the outer two barrels to accept the loop. And it came out better than new.

Whoops Jeff (Flea) - it seems that I misread your post - sorry - & that the one on the right is an original. It seems just a tad different from a pic in the Poore hence my comment - ? has it been repaired (cos of the brass colouring on the ends?)

The one on the right is a orignial. I had to replace the Hinge Pin.
The one on the left was a regular 3 barrel, I added the Loop, and a new Hinge Pin.
