Hey there fellas.. ok a lil back story.. while I am not an avid collector of military memoribilia, including Zippos, I have found a peice that hits close to home. Back in 1991 my dad was in Operation Desert Storm (and has since now been to this war as well ) and I have found a Zippo that I'd love to get.. but at the the same time do not want to get suckered into a Rippo.. cgi.ebay.com/MINT-OPERATION-DESERT-STORM-ZIPPO-LIGHTER-BRADFORD-PA_W0QQitemZ6221142320QQcategoryZ38048QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohostingAbove I have provided a link to the auction.. If you scholarly gents wouldn't mind glancing over the pics ESPECIALLY the pic with the bottom stamp on it (looks weird to me) and verifying its authenticity to the best of your abilities I'd be greatful. Under any circumstance I'd be pissed being roped into a Rippo but in this case I NEED to make sure its legit. Thanks fellas..

Unfortunately no. The single Desert Storm went before I got verification on it's authenticity. As for the Desert Storm/ Desert Shield set.. well that went for almost a hundred and I don't have that kind of bankroll.. I DID have the highest bid at $25 though.. ;D

K boys so this is the one I ended up winning... Only thing is that it was described as NEW and MINT and there are these black scuff like marks on the top of the lid and the area right around the bottom stamp. I talked to the dealer and he has no others in stock and said if I was unhappy to send it back full refund. Don't think I'd ever get it again at this price though.. ::sigh:: such a dilemma

hmmm...those black marks on the lid sound familiar, eh boys? Is the lighter packaged in one of those new black plastic boxes? If so check to see if the marks line up with the little plastic bit in the lid of the box that helps keep the lighter from falling out. This topic was thrashed about endlessly in ZC: how the boxes marr painted lighters and how the box is easily tipped forward. Now as to marks on the bottom though?...

are you talking about the plastic boxes with the chimney pattern on the front, i got one, i dont like it how the lid pops off too easly, and like others says it falls over if there is a draft in the room i like the other ones (92?) where the lid flips over to make a little stand but doesnt pop off.

Yep it is indeed the box with the chimney print. Horrible, HORRIBLE engineering. All well.. I'm about to send it back within the next couple of days.. looking for a new one.. difficult to let go.. SUCH A GOOD PRICE!! as for the marks at the bottom.. the plastic case has 3 bumps holding the zippo in. one top middle, 2 on the bottom at each side. I guess this has been in and out of the case a lot? Any ideas on if it's possible to remove them? The guy said possibly "Goo B Gone" but I have no idea where I'd even get it or if it would work. Any suggestions welcom. Trial A: Pencil eraser didn't work enough.. did some though..

I do not know about the others but,I would not send it back.they are getting a lot harder to find and in a few years they will be just about impossible to get.The price was not bad so I would keep it.bbd

I just stumbled across this (click here); I don't know if it's of any interest to anyone, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
