Looking at the cover of "THE VIET NAM ZIPPO BOOK 1933-1975 - JIM FIORELLA" (mind you i don't have the book, yet, so that's why i'm posting.)
I have that Zippo, it's a 1972, which would put it in that era. *I know the difference between a vietnam zippo and a vietnam era zippo.
Why does he have it on his book, and what, if any, does he say about it.
Just looked up the insert. Case- 1972 Insert '67-'68 I can post pix if needed.

Thanks DB7, but you missed the point of my thread. Though i'm looking to buy the book, (i don't feel like spending 30 US clams on it) I was hoping that another LL.com member would have the book, and post what it says about it. But I guess no-one has the book. So i will have to wait till i get it. , Spanish Flea

BBD, Flea's talking about the happy face Zippo on the cover of the Vietnam book seen here: And he's asking if the author has it on the cover of the book, does he write about it in the book, and what exactly does he say about it?

I know it's been a long time but here is what I remember of the smiley face.Back in the mid to late 60's a guy who was a little tired of the war(Nam)and the other stupid stuff going on in the mid 60's came up with the smiley face to just try and make people step back and smile more often. He did not bother to copywrite it or anything like that but just put it out there for the people.Well, it did not take long before it really took off.It was on lunch boxes, note books, tee shirts and just about everything else they could put it on.Hell in the early-mid70's they even did a cartoon with the smiling little freak. It was an American icon in just a few years. The guy who came up with it never really made anything off of it and I do not think it ever really went away.I was at a mall last night with the wife and kids and I still see it all around. So it is not just a Vietnam thing but more of a pop icon from the 60's -70's.I am almost positive I had one of them back then and guess I should start looking at some of my old packed away Zippos to see if I still have it.So now you all know what I know about the smiling little yellow guy on the Zippo.bbd does remembering this stuff make me old?

LOL, no it doesn't make you old. But i was told that if you remember the 70's you didn't do it right. LOL.
Oh yeah i remember that smily face story...... some guy was running from the east coast to the west coast and back again, got mud on his face and wiped it off with a shirt....... oh wait that was a movie. sorry.
